UL Solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer - Physical AI to lead AI assurance across AI-enabled physical products and cyber-physical systems. You will shape standards, certification, and testing programs and collaborate with R&D, product, and regulatory teams to advance safety and trust in emerging technologies.

The role requires 15+ years in robotics or related engineering fields, with 5+ years in AI-enabled systems, and a strong background in safety, risk assessment and standards compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline as listed.
• 15+ years in robotics, autonomous systems, embedded systems or related engineering domains.
• 5+ years direct experience with AI-enabled physical systems, robotics or ML-enabled products.
• Hands-on experience developing, integrating, evaluating, testing AI-enabled physical systems in real-world environments.
• Knowledge of Physical AI technologies, failure modes, hazards and evaluation methodologies.
• Familiarity with robotics, product safety, functional safety, cybersecurity, AI governance standards/regulatory frameworks.
• Strong technical writing, presentation and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop standards, certification and verification programs for AI-enabled physical products.
• Define methods to evaluate system behavior in real-world scenarios including safety and risk considerations.
• Develop and launch customer-facing offerings like readiness assessments and advisory engagements.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to regulators, standards bodies and industry forums.
• Build global delivery capability through evaluator competency frameworks, training and procedures.
