Job summary

UL Solutions seeks a Principal Engineer - Physical AI for Consumer TIC, acting as the global SME for AI-enabled physical products and cyber-physical systems. Lead in standards, certification, testing, advisory, and training to advance safety and trust in Physical AI.

This hybrid role requires 3 days onsite at UL locations globally; remote work may be considered for non-local candidates. You will shape evaluation methods, customer-facing programs, and serve regulators and customers as a trusted

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in robotics, EE, CE, ME, systems engineering, AI, CS, or related field.
• 15+ years in robotics, autonomous or cyber-physical systems with 5+ years in AI-enabled physical systems.
• Hands-on experience building or evaluating AI-enabled physical systems in real-world environments.
• Knowledge of Physical AI technologies, failure modes and risk evaluation methods.
• Familiarity with robotics, safety, cybersecurity, and AI governance standards.
• Strong writing, presentation and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop standards, certification programs, and test requirements for AI-enabled physical products.
• Evaluate system behavior in real-world scenarios, including risk and safety aspects.
• Create customer-facing offerings like readiness assessments and certification pathways.
• Advise regulators, standards bodies, and industry forums as a trusted technical advisor.
• Build global delivery capability through training, procedures, and transfer mechanisms.
