Job summary

FWD Group is seeking an experienced underwriting leader to manage high-sum cases and set robust underwriting guidelines in our Hong Kong operation. You will drive quality decisions and work with reinsurers to secure optimal offers for complex cases, while guiding a team of underwriters.

The role requires a university degree with professional qualifications (FLMI/ALU preferred) and a minimum of 10 years in underwriting and new business processing, including 5 years in management, with strong risk

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or higher with relevant professional qualifications (e.g., FLMI, ALU).
• Minimum 10 years of underwriting and new business processing experience in Life/Health, including HNW, with at least 5 years in a management role.
• Expert in underwriting assessment and risk management for high-sum cases; product development experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite high sum assured cases and determine risk; ensure quality decisions.
• Negotiate best offers with reinsurers on high-sum cases.
• Collaborate with product development and other departments on projects.
• Establish and maintain underwriting rules and guidelines.
• Review and improve underwriting practices for efficiency and accuracy.
• Guide and coach junior underwriters; provide training to sales partners.
• Provide credit decisions and recommendations for complex cases.
• Handle inquiries from peers and partners with clear communication.
• Monitor alignment and quality of underwriting practices and decisions.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for underwriting high sum assured cases
• Liaise and strive for best offer from reinsurer on high sum assured cases
• Work with other departments in different projects, including product development
• Establish underwriting rules and guidelines following the company policy and product specification
• Review and create underwriting practices and guidelines which demonstrate improved effectiveness in underwriting
• Play a key supporting role in monitoring and ensuring the alignment and quality of the underwriting practice and decision
• Coach and offer guidance to underwriters
• Provide credit decisions and recommendations for complex cases
• Provide training to sales partners and team members
• Handle enquires from peers, sales partners and other departments

Qualifications

• University graduate or above, with professional qualifications such as FLMI, ALU etc.
• Minimum 10 years relevant experience in underwriting and new business processing of Life and Health products, including HNW product, of which 5 years or more at management level
• Technical: An expert in underwriting assessment and risk management with sound knowledge in underwriting high sum assured cases. Experience in product development will be an advantage.
• Quality Decisions: Application of experience and knowledge to quickly assess a situation and make quality decisions.
• HNW UW authority at USD 10M above is preferred
• Business Knowledge: Acquires and applies knowledge in pursuit of competitiveness. Understands key business drivers and the competitor environment.
• Communication and Influencing Skills: Ability to clearly articulate ideas and solutions. Ability to gain support and inspire others.
• Problem solving: Ability to prioritize issues, assess problem and seek timely solution.
• Have strong communication skill and negotiation skill with Reinsurer
