Job summary

Time Seventeen seeks a data-acquisition professional to build our external data foundation for geopolitical and catastrophe risk. You will identify sources, evaluate data usefulness, manage vendor relationships, and negotiate terms and rights for internal use and redistribution.

You will work with researchers, engineers, and legal colleagues to ensure data quality, access, and licensing compliance, turning complex datasets into reliable inputs for risk models and indices.

Qualifications

• Experience in data acquisition, alternative-data research, partnerships, or sourcing roles.
• Understanding of dataset provenance, coverage, collection methods, and rights impact value.
• Confident in external outreach and negotiations with commercial partners.

Responsibilities

• Translate priorities into a ranked data-acquisition plan with evaluation criteria.
• Identify specialist providers and proprietary sources across geopolitical events, hazards, and markets.
• Conduct outreach, build vendor relationships, and coordinate sample access and evaluation.
• Assess coverage, timeliness, provenance, revisions, and overlap with existing sources.
• Collaborate with researchers to test value and with engineers on integration needs.
• Negotiate pricing, trials, rights, and terms with legal review.
• Maintain records of conversations, evaluations, terms, and decisions.
• Coordinate onboarding and monitor ongoing data quality and compliance.
• Review data collection practices for privacy and confidential information with legal/compliance.
