Job summary

Canonical seeks a System Software Engineer for GCC/LLVM compiler, tooling, and ecosystem. This remote role focuses on modern C/C++ ecosystems on Ubuntu, delivering GCC/LLVM runtimes, tooling and an optimized developer experience.

You will collaborate in a distributed team, packaging for Debian/Ubuntu, and contributing to the Ubuntu Foundations stack to empower cloud, containers, and desktop environments.

Qualifications

• Relevant GCC/LLVM experience, ideally in cloud-native software and Linux.
• Experience packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu.
• Long-time Linux user with strong academic record.
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or compelling alternative path.
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a distributed team across regions.
• Select, integrate and package tooling with Ubuntu for GCC/LLVM.
• Write high-quality code to add features and improvements.
• Debug issues and deliver robust fixes.
• Review code and participate in design reviews with peers.
• Engage in cross-team discussions to improve Ubuntu performance and UX.
• Work from home with global travel 2–4 weeks/year.
