Job description

We are seeking a high calibre Director, Digital Assets & New Initiative to drive the development and commercialization of our digital asset products and capabilities within the Wealth & Retail Banking business segment, with a primary focus on stablecoin distribution and related initiatives.

This role will be responsible for building and scaling a secure, compliant, and commercially viable stablecoin distribution business, while positioning the Bank as a trusted bridge between traditional finance and the evolving digital asset ecosystem. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in digital assets, a strong track record of execution, and the ability to navigate regulatory, risk, and operational complexity in a highly regulated banking environment.

Key Responsibilities
Stablecoin Distribution & Product Development
  • Facilitate and drive the Bank's agenda in digital asset, with a particular focus on stablecoin distribution, custody partnerships, and on/off-ramp solutions on digital channels.
  • Build a scalable business model for stablecoin-related products including distribution, payments, remittances, yield solutions (where permitted), and wallet integrations.
  • Identify and evaluate internal & external partnerships with issuers, various crypto trading platforms, fintechs, and ecosystem participants.
  • Drive revenue growth and customer acquisition through innovative digital asset propositions.
  • Lead the end-to-end launch of stablecoin distribution capabilities for retail customers.
  • Define product architecture covering wallet integration, settlement flows, liquidity management, and customer journey.
  • Collaborate with payments, deposits, FX, and cross-border teams to integrate stablecoin capabilities into existing platforms.
  • We expect the candidate possessing at least 8-10 years of experience from large-scale cryptocurrency exchange platforms, financial institutions or international banks with hands-on experience in one of the domains: a) deposit, FX or payment projects in retail banking business, or b) transaction banking projects in institutional or corporate banking business, and experience of working with regulators such as HKMA or SFC is preferred.
Regulatory & Risk management
  • Ensure full compliance with HKMA, SFC, and other applicable regulatory requirements related to virtual assets and stablecoins.
  • Work closely with Compliance, Legal, Risk, and AML teams to establish robust governance frameworks.
  • Develop policies covering custody, transaction monitoring, market risk, operational risk, and cyber security in digital asset operations.
  • Act as senior liaison with regulators on digital asset initiatives.
Commercial & Ecosystem Development
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with stablecoin issuers, blockchain networks, liquidity providers, and custodians.
  • Represent the Bank in industry forums, regulatory consultations, and ecosystem discussions.
  • Assess emerging digital asset trends and identify strategic opportunities.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • With track record as a strong individual contributor whilst demonstrating leadership potential to drive a high-performing digital asset team.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Treasury, and Retail Product teams.
  • Present business cases and strategic updates to senior management and executive committees.
