Job summary

The role emphasizes framework implementation, catalog management, data classification, and governance tooling with platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica EDC, and Alation. You will partner with compliance and IT security to embed controls and drive adoption across lines of business.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of practical experience in Data Governance, Data Management, or Technical Data Stewardship.
• Solid understanding of data governance disciplines, including metadata management, data lineage, data classification, data quality, and data privacy controls.
• Experience in BFSI domain is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the adoption, refinement, and rollout of the Data Governance Framework, internal data policies, and SOPs.
• Assist in designing, configuring, and optimizing data governance technology, including enterprise data catalogs, data lineage, metadata repositories, and data quality monitoring tools.
• Drive structured and unstructured data classification, ontology and taxonomy management, and automated data tagging to enhance data discoverability.

Our client is a leading Hong Kong enterprise advancing its digital transformation and data capabilities. To support their expanding digital ecosystem, they are seeking a hands-on Data Governance Specialist to strengthen organization-wide data management, metadata frameworks, and data protection practices.

Key Responsibilities

Framework Implementation & Operationalization: Support the adoption, continuous refinement, and rollout of the enterprise Data Governance Framework, internal data policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Metadata & Catalog Management: Assist in designing, configuring, and optimizing data governance technology, including enterprise data catalogs, data lineage, metadata repositories, and data quality monitoring tools.

Data Classification & Taxonomy: Drive structured and unstructured data classification, ontology and taxonomy management, and automated data tagging to enhance data discoverability and support downstream analytics and AI readiness.

Data Privacy & Security Controls: Work alongside compliance and IT security teams to embed data protection controls, access management, and personal data privacy safeguards in line with regulatory requirements.

Governance Adoption & Training: Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams and business stakeholders to drive governance adoption, deliver training, and monitor governance effectiveness.

Requirements

Experience: 3+ years of practical experience in Data Governance, Data Management, or Technical Data Stewardship.

Industry Background: Prior experience in Banking, Financial Services, or Insurance (BFSI) is highly preferred.

Core Competencies: Solid understanding of data governance disciplines, including metadata management, data lineage, data classification, data quality, and data privacy controls.

Domain Knowledge: General familiarity with data prerequisites for modern analytics and light AI adoption (e.g., automated tagging, semantic search, or text parsing) is a plus.

Governance Tooling: Hands-on experience with enterprise data governance and catalog platforms (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica EDC, Alation).

Technical Skills

SQL: Proficient in SQL for data extraction, profiling, transformation, and analysis.

Python: Practical working knowledge of Python for data processing, script automation, or text parsing.

APIs & Scripting: Familiarity with RESTful APIs and automation workflows for metadata enrichment and tool connectivity.

Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong stakeholder management capabilities to bridge technical teams and business units.
