Job summary

TEKsystems in Hong Kong is seeking a Business Data Analyst to join a retail company and support a large-scale data environment at the intersection of business analysis, data modelling and analytics.

You will act as a key bridge between business stakeholders and technical data teams, translating needs into scalable data solutions and enabling self-service analytics with semantic data modelling, Power BI and Python-driven insights.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Business Data Analyst or similar in a data-focused environment.
• Strong ability to engage with business stakeholders and translate needs into data requirements.
• Good understanding of semantic data modelling and data structures.
• Hands-on experience with Power BI and SQL.
• Knowledge of Python for data analysis is desirable.

We are looking for a Business Data Analyst to join a retail company and support a large-scale data environment, working at the intersection of business analysis, data modelling and analytics.

You will act as a key bridge between business stakeholders and technical data teams, understanding how the business uses data and translating those needs into clear requirements and scalable data solutions. The role will have a particular focus on semantic data modelling, Power BI and enabling self-service analytics, helping business users access and leverage data more effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Engage with business stakeholders to understand their data, reporting and analytics needs.

Gather, analyse and translate business requirements into clear data requirements and solutions.

Design and maintain semantic data models to provide business-friendly and consistent access to data.

Support the development of self-service analytics, enabling business users to independently explore and analyse data.

Build and enhance dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI.

Use SQL and Python for data analysis, validation and investigation.

Work closely with Data Engineers and other technical teams to ensure data is structured and delivered according to business requirements.

Support data quality activities and help identify gaps or inconsistencies within datasets.

Document business requirements, data definitions, processes and analytical solutions.

Drive communication between business and technical teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Business Data Analyst, Data Analyst or Business Analyst within a data-focused environment.

Strong ability to engage with business stakeholders and translate business needs into data requirements.

Good understanding of semantic data modelling and data structures.

Hands-on experience with Power BI and SQL.

Knowledge of Python for data analysis is highly desirable.

Good understanding of self-service analytics and how data can be made accessible to non-technical users.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across both business and technical teams.
