Job summary

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited is hiring a senior Java Developer to design, implement and support post‑trade systems for cash equities and derivatives. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

The role requires strong Java skills, experience with microservices, containers, REST APIs and DevOps tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of software development experience in large scale or mission critical systems; associate level for fewer years with strong capabilities.
• Strong Java programming skills; knowledge of JavaScript and HTML5.
• Experience with Linux, shell, databases and SQL; microservices, containers and REST API development.
• Familiar with DevOps life cycles, CI/CD tools such as Jira, Git, JUnit, Docker; security and cloud concepts a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead system design and project implementation such as requirements analysis, resource management and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design and implement new features.
• Develop applications that follow standard technology stacks with adequate test coverage.
• Maintain detailed documentation including specifications, test plans and deployment procedures.
• Troubleshoot issues from integration tests, UAT and regression tests promptly.
• Ensure compliance with architecture, security, infrastructure and performance requirements.
• Provide ongoing production support and BAU tasks after go‑live.
• Track development progress and resolve technical conflicts within the team.

Job Summary

IT Post Trade Systems is responsible for the design, implementation and support of systems for the clearing and settlement of cash equities and derivative products, nominee and depository functions, and collateral and risk management platforms. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission‑critical systems that underpin HongKong’s financial infrastructure. You will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver innovative, secure, and scalable solutions.

Job Duties

We are seeking a highly motivated Java Developer to join our dynamic IT division.The incumbent will be responsible for IT project implementation and application development on Post‑Trade Systems.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for system design and project implementation activities including the business requirement analysis, resource management, application development and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design and implement new features.
• Design and implement application that follows project standard technology stacks and meets business requirements with adequate test case coverage.
• Maintain detailed system documentation, including Functional and Technical Specifications, Test Plans for various kinds of testing, and user & operation manuals, deployment procedures as well as contingency procedures.
• Troubleshoot issues reported from system integration tests, business UAT and regression tests in a timely manner.
• Ensure application can meet all necessary technical and compliance requirements such as architecture, security and infrastructure and performance.
• Provide ongoing production support and BAU tasks after go‑live.
• Undertake any other assignments and projects assigned by supervisor.
• Track and monitor development progress, and resolve technical conflicts and issues within team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or above) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in software development in large scale and mission critical systems. Candidates with fewer years of experience but strong technical capabilities may be considered at the Associate level.
• Strong skills of programming languages: Java (Mandatory), JavaScript, HTML5.
• Knowledge in Linux, shell programming, Database and SQL.
• Practical experience in Microservices, Container, and REST API development.
• Familiar with DevOps life cycles, SDLC methodology and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jira, Git, Junit, Docker, etc.).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience in Cloud technologies is an advantage.
• Experience in application security (OAuth2, API security, encryption & signing, etc.) is an advantage.
• Experience in messaging systems (Kafka, ActiveMQ, IBM MQ) or in‑house messaging bus implementation is an advantage.
• Experience in financial services system development is an advantage.
• Experience in digital finance (tokenization, blockchain technology) is an advantage.
• Knowledge of FIX / Swift messaging protocols is an advantage.
