Job summary

Finbot Limited in Hong Kong is seeking an AI Research Engineer to join our R&D team. You will lead applied research for two workstreams: an external client-facing AI RM chatbot and an internal commission calculation chatbot.

You should have a solid ML/NLP background, interest in fintech, and a strong eye for detail with thorough documentation. The project is ITF RTH-SPC funded and focuses on explainable AI and robust auditing.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated AI Research Engineer to join our R&D team. We are launching a new R&D project funded under the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) Research Talent Hub (RTH-SPC) to develop a next‑generation AI Relationship Manager chatbot system for wealth management. You will conduct applied research and development across two workstreams:

External AI RM Chatbot (Client‑Facing)

• Research NLP methods to extract topics, interests and changing preferences from authorised client interactions
• Build a structured product knowledge base and retrieval‑based response system with full source traceability
• Develop and evaluate client‑need‑to‑product matching methods with explainable outputs and suitability constraints
• Design safeguards: uncertainty handling, escalation to human RM, audit logging

Internal AI Commission Calculation Chatbot

• Model commission schedules, calculation rules and exception conditions into structured representations
• Develop deterministic calculation components and a natural‑language interface for staff queries
• Build exception detection and reconciliation methods; validate against verified test cases

Overall

• Develop test datasets and scenario‑based tests (ambiguous, incomplete, conflicting, edge cases)
• Run experiments comparing alternative methods; document results, limitations and error patterns
• Maintain technical documentation, data/model records and audit‑related design specifications
• Present findings to management and business teams

Requirement:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, Financial Engineering or a related STEM discipline
• Solid foundation in machine learning and natural language processing
• Interest in fintech, behavioural analysis and explainable AI
• Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and good documentation habits
• Hong Kong permanent resident or holding a valid visa permitting full‑time employment in Hong Kong

Engagement Terms:

• Salary: HK$21,000 - 25,000 per month
