A little more about your role…
  • Having a proven track record in both leading projects for your discipline and for an overall project team. Be able to demonstrate where your personal input has led to the commission being won or successfully delivered.
  • Lead on Building Services - mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) – as part of a wider multidisciplinary team on a wide range of Energy projects.
  • Able to work using your own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of their discipline or have specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
  • Able to work under the clear direction of the client and interpret the needs of the project as a whole to meet the full delivery needs.
  • Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and lead the overall feasibility study for the project.
  • Supervise the completion of detailed designs and supervise the work of others in this function.
  • Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specification for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
  • Reviewing design programmes and ensuring that sufficient resource is available to complete the works

  • Whilst the role is advertised as Birmingham (Mailbox, UK), WSP have offices across the UK we would welcome you to.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

Key Technical Requirements:
  • Having an understanding of the UK and European regulations applicable to the Building Services and how to demonstrate this in project execution.
  • Have working understanding of latest design software packages to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Have understanding of working with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Have an ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively.
  • Have working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Preferably understanding and experience of National Grid Substation requirements (for example; Control Buildings, GIS Buildings, and relevant NG TS)

Electrical & Mechanical Design Skills:
  • Small Power
  • Lighting
  • Fire Detection and Alarms
  • Intruder Detection and Alarms (as well as Access Control and CCTV)
  • Data / Telephone (cabling and outlets)
  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
  • Plumbing / Public Health

Qualifications:
  • BEng/Bsc/MEng in applicable engineering discipline
  • Preferably CIBSE / IET / Engineering Council accredited honours degree or specific experience that will lead to Chartership, or working towards I Eng or C Eng status
  • Revit MEP training applied to the discipline
