One of the biggest UK rail network companies operating with rail infrastructure and asset management has a need to develop and support enterprise-level information systems. The role is responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of complex IT systems and solutions that support the operational and strategic goals of the rail organization. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including business leaders, IT teams, and external vendors, to ensure that the IT architecture aligns with the organization's objectives and industry standards.

Responsibilities

1. Architectural Design: Develop and maintain the overall IT architecture for the rail organization, ensuring it supports current and future business needs.
2. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business leaders, project managers, and IT teams to gather requirements and translate them into effective IT solutions.
3. Technology Integration: Ensure seamless integration of new technologies into existing systems, focusing on scalability, security, and efficiency.
4. Project Oversight: Lead and manage IT projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
5. Compliance and Standards: Ensure all IT solutions comply with industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
6. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the reliability and security of IT systems.
7. Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for IT architecture, including design specifications, implementation plans, and operational procedures.
8. Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, and continuously seek opportunities to improve IT systems and processes.

SKILLS

Must have

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
2. Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in IT architecture, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the rail industry or a similar sector.
3. Proficiency in enterprise architecture frameworks, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data management.
4. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
5. Relevant certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, or PMP are highly desirable.

Nice to have

• Development experience within a cloud and/or web-based environment.
• Data Management concepts and technology.
• Process Management and workflow concepts & technologies.
• Development lifecycles and notations covering structured, object and component-based approaches (e.g. IE, DSDM, RUP, UML).
• Knowledge of specific applications.
