Job summary

Portsmouth City Council invites applications for a Youth Worker role in the Youth Work team. The post involves 6 hours per week across two evenings (18:00–21:00), with days to be discussed, and staff must be flexible to work across different sites.

Youth services aim to improve outcomes for young people aged 11–19 years, up to 25 years for those with learning difficulties or disabilities, through information, guidance and activities in youth clubs and projects. DBS required.

Qualifications

• Be enthusiastic and able to build and maintain effective relationships with young people.
• Experience with youth aged 11–25 years and ability to engage effectively with staff and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills and restorative approach in interactions.
• Ability to relate to service users and be approachable.
• Flexible to work evenings and occasionally weekends across different sites.

Responsibilities

• Support youth clubs and activities including sport, dance, art, music, drama and cooking.
• Encourage participation and help plan/run activities with young people.
• Build relationships with young people, listen to their needs and signpost to other services.
• Work under the direction of the Youth Club Manager and assist across all areas of the youth club.
• Participate in off-site activities such as day trips and residentials.
