Job summary

Essex County Council is hiring a Youth Support Worker in Training in Basildon. The role combines paid work with a formal Youth Work Level 3 qualification, with on‑the‑job training and evenings/weekends commitment. You will support young people, develop activities across Basildon and south Essex, and join a team of youth workers and volunteers.

Salary reflects an established apprenticeship scheme (£25,580 p.a. plus £954 fringe allowance).

Qualifications

• Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English (Grade D/E or 2/3) to begin apprenticeship.
• Ability to reach Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English by the End Point Assessment (EPA).
• Must be mobile across an operational area with a driving licence and access to a vehicle or equivalent mobility.

Responsibilities

• Identify areas of need and opportunities to develop youth work in the community.
• Negotiate involvement of young people and communities in programme planning and evaluation.
• Deliver or support youth work programmes, including residential experiences where required.
• Be part of a team, support learning and development, and complete required training within 18 months.
