Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Targeted Youth Advisor in Chelmsford to develop the Youth Service, offering intensive mentoring and groupwork to at-risk young people to overcome barriers to education and employment.

You will support school-age youths requiring impartial guidance to re-engage in education and progression to post-sixteen opportunities, in collaboration with Education, Health, Social Services and Youth Offending Service.

Qualifications

• Educated to IAG Qualification, Dip CG, QCG or NVQ 4 LDDS (minimum NVQ 4) level.
• Preferably working towards level 6 LDDS.
• Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
• Experience of line management of staff and working with young people one-to-one and in groups.
• Experience progressing young people into employment, education, and training opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Assist young people to overcome barriers to access universal services and learning or employment with impartial advice.
• Work with young people, families, and schools to remove barriers to education in line with DfE guidance.
• Manage a defined caseload and maintain accurate records in line with funding requirements.
• Lead and develop staff, reflecting on practice to improve performance.
• Deliver intensive support within a cost-recoverable framework to remove barriers to education or employment.
• Collaborate with schools, social care, SEND, and partner agencies to widen support.
