Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Youth Mentor to join a Cheltenham school, supporting pupils in both primary and secondary settings. You will work alongside teachers to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, boost wellbeing, and build confidence.

Ideal candidates include Teaching Assistants, Youth Workers, or mentors with experience supporting children with additional needs. You will mentor one-to-one and in small groups, promote positive behaviour, and maintain accurate

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people in schools, youth work, or community settings.
• Understanding of challenges faced by young people with additional needs or behavioural and social-emotional needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils requiring additional support.
• Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring sessions.
• Support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
• Assist teachers in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Help pupils stay engaged in lessons and achieve learning goals.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
• Encourage confidence, resilience, independence, and self-esteem.
• Work with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
• Maintain records of mentoring sessions, progress, and interventions.
• Safeguard and promote welfare of all children and young people per safeguarding policies.
