Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Youth Justice Practitioner to support intensive work with young people to reduce offending. The role involves collaboration with families, schools, and key agencies to address drivers of offending and participate in multiagency forums for improved outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have social work registration or a probation studies qualification, experience with complex needs in criminal justice, and strong IT skills for YJS recording.

Qualifications

• Qualified and registered Social Worker (Social Work England) or hold a professionally accredited qualification in Probation Studies.
• Experience with children/young people or young adults with complex needs in a criminal justice setting and understanding of related issues.
• Excellent communication skills and IT literate; ensure high-quality recording on YJS case management system.
• Ability to work on your own initiative and manage competing demands under pressure; commitment to CPD.
• Ability to challenge young people and families in a constructive manner; willingness to collaborate with parents/carers.
• Adept at working as part of a multi-disciplinary team across organisational boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Work to reduce offending by young people, coordinating with family, schools and key agencies.
• Represent the Youth Justice Service at multiagency forums to secure better outcomes for young people.
• Demonstrate experience with young people with complex needs and knowledge of relevant legislation.
