Job summary

Essex County Council's Youth Justice Team is recruiting a Practitioner to reduce offending by young people, working with families, schools and key agencies. You will represent the Youth Justice Service at multi-agency forums to secure better outcomes and will bring experience with complex needs in a criminal justice setting.

The role requires strong communication skills, IT literacy, and a commitment to ongoing professional development and partnership with families and carers.

Qualifications

• Qualified and registered Social Worker with Social Work England.
• Experience with children/young people or young adults in a criminal justice setting.
• Excellent communication and IT literacy with high-quality recording on YJS case management system.
• Ability to work on your own initiative and manage competing demands with a commitment to CPD.
• Ability to challenge young people and families in partnership with others involved.
• Adept at working as part of a multi-disciplinary team across organisational boundaries.

Youth Justice Practitioners work to reduce offending by young people, working closely with family, schools and other relevant key agencies to address the factors leading to offending and representing the Youth Justice Service at relevant multiagency forums to secure better outcomes for young people.

With experience of working with young people with complex needs and their families demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of all relevant legislation and a background in youth justice, social work or probation.

The Experience You Will Bring

• Either a qualified and registered Social Work England Social Worker or hold a professionally accredited qualification in Probation Studies.
• Experience of working with children / young people or young adults with complex needs in a criminal justice setting and an understanding of the issues that affect young people and children.
• Excellent communication skills and IT literate and ensure high-quality recording on YJS case management system.
• An ability to work on your own initiative and manage competing demands when under pressure and awareness of own strengths and area for development and a commitment to continuous professional development.
• Ability to challenge young people, their attitudes and behaviours, in an appropriate and positive manner and a commitment to working in partnership with young people, their parents/carers and others involved in the young person's life.
• Adept at working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and across organisational boundaries.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency.
