Job summary

Somerset Council is looking for a Youth Justice Professional Practitioner based in Bridgwater. The role carries a Grade 10 salary (£38,510 - £43,149) and is a permanent, full-time post within the Somerset Youth Justice Team.

You will work with children and young people aged 10–18, delivering assessments, reports, and targeted interventions to prevent offending. The team includes social workers, police, probation staff and professionals; you will build strong multi-agency partnerships, lead

Qualifications

  • Significant experience of working with children and young people with risk or complex needs.
  • Strong assessment and analytical skills to evaluate risk and plan interventions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities for multi-agency work.
  • Experience producing high-quality written reports and professional assessments (courts/official settings).
  • Commitment to Child First and restorative approaches; ability to lead by example.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality assessment and case oversight, managing risk, vulnerability, wellbeing, and individual needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children, families, carers and partner agencies.
  • Provide targeted interventions to develop strengths and reduce re-offending.
  • Prepare and present professional reports and assessments for courts and panels.
  • Lead and support practice excellence, guiding Intervention Workers and driving improvement.
