Job description

Youth Engagement & Employability Coach - 12 months Fixed Terms Contract

Salary: £30,500

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Temporary, Full Time – 12 month contract

Jobs Plus is a pilot project funded by Youth Futures and DWP to saturate a small area of Sheffield with projects and programmes of activity, focusing on community led delivery. The Jobs Plus youth worker will assist in the delivery of the Jobs Plus project on Wybourn in Sheffield, implementing & promoting the programme of activities to local residents and engaging local young people. The youth worker will also support young people into volunteering, employment & training.

What you’ll be doing
  1. Assisting in developing and coordinating services and activities for young people.
  2. Encouraging young people to engage with new and existing educational and recreational activities.
  3. Engaging directly with young people and identifying the needs of vulnerable young people and, if appropriate, coordinating access to specialist services.
  4. Assisting in the promotion and development of employment & skills opportunities with young people.
  5. Working directly with young people to develop, undertake and maintain a programme of work opportunities.
  6. Providing a 1-2-1 employability service to young people.
  7. Providing mentorship for our community champions.
  8. Working with local services and partners to promote Jobs Plus.
  9. Developing positive relationships with young people, volunteers and local services.
  10. Working with Great Places staff in ensuring the provision of a safe and welcoming environment for all young people attending projects and programmes.
  11. Helping young people broaden their skills through activities.
  12. Assisting in undertaking risk assessments as required within the Health and Safety Policy of Great Places.
  13. Assisting in identifying when a responsible adult or guardian’s consent is required in relation to activities being undertaken by the young person and liaising with the third party accordingly.
  14. Sharing responsibility for initiating and undertaking projects and activities within the project which are both fun and educational.
  15. Actively involving young people in such initiatives ensuring real participation and developing feelings of ownership.
  16. Liaising with volunteers and partners who run a range of activities with us.
  17. Assisting in working with partner organisations in ensuring that resources are effectively used in meeting customer needs either individually or collectively.
  18. Ensuring that records are kept relating to all services and activities and are maintained in accordance with the Great Places Confidentiality / GDPR Policy.

What you’ll need
  1. Experience of working with young people.
  2. Experience of supporting young people into volunteering, training and employment.
  3. Experience of working in a customer-focused environment, with proven ability of delivering a high standard of customer service.
  4. Able to use Microsoft Office applications and a variety of IT systems as part of daily role.
  5. Great people skills.
  6. Self-reliant and resilient.
  7. Commitment to work in partnership with others for the benefit of Great Places and Jobs Plus.

All successful applicant(s) will be subject to an enhanced criminal records background check (Child and Adult Workforce, Child Barred List).
