Job summary

Waythrough is recruiting a Drug and Alcohol Recovery Practitioner for Aquarius Action Projects’ Young Person Service in Telford. You will work with clients aged 10+ and adults 18+ facing substance-related challenges, providing assessments, interventions and group programmes to support positive outcomes.

You will manage referrals, conduct assessments, offer harm minimisation advice, and collaborate with families and partner agencies to maximise service impact.

Qualifications

• Understanding of substance use and related health and social issues.
• Experience in addictions, substance misuse or social care settings.
• Knowledge of alcohol, drugs and related health issues.
• Experience liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and health professionals.
• Confidence engaging with clients across diverse service delivery settings.
• Ability to work professionally with service users, families and external agencies.
• Energetic, confident and self-motivated approach.
• Flexible and committed to confidentiality principles.
• Excellent record-keeping skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Act as the initial contact point for referrals into the service.
• Conduct initial assessments by telephone and face-to-face.
• Provide harm minimisation advice and support.
• Deliver brief and structured interventions and group programmes.
• Provide family interventions where appropriate.
• Undertake risk assessments and risk management.
• Make onward referrals to relevant partner agencies.
• Manage a caseload of service users.
• Collaborate with service users, families and external agencies to maximise outcomes.
