Job summary

Portsmouth City Council is seeking a dedicated Youth Worker to support young people aged 11–19 (up to 25 in some cases) in a youth club setting. You will help run activities, listen to their ideas, and signpost to services as needed, including day trips and residentials.

You will report to the Youth Club Manager and work flexibly across evenings and weekends at various sites, fostering inclusive practices and positive youth participation.

Qualifications

• Be enthusiastic and able to make and maintain effective relationships with young people.
• Have experience of working with young people aged 11-25 years; be enthusiastic and able to build relationships.
• Excellent communication skills to engage with young people, staff and stakeholders restoratively.
• Ability to converse at ease with service users.
• Friendly and approachable with patience and sense of humor.
• Able to work in a team with volunteers and staff; hands-on role.
• Understanding of anti-discriminatory practice and empowerment of young people.
• Be flexible in hours; evenings and occasional weekend work across sites.

Responsibilities

• Encourage participation and plan activities with young people.
• Build relationships by listening and signposting to other services as required.
• Support the work under the direction of the Youth Club Manager.
• Contribute to activities across sport, dance, art, music, drama and cooking, and off-site day trips and residentials.
• Work across all youth club areas, including learning needs provision.
