Job summary

Barod is seeking a Young Persons Caseworker for the Gwent N-gage service in Caerphilly. The role involves delivering targeted interventions, assessments, and outreach for young people with substance use concerns, while maintaining case records and collaborating with partner agencies. Welsh language skills are preferred and driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• Full, current driving licence and a vehicle for business use.
• Level 3 in Advice and Guidance (or equivalent).
• Degree in Health and Social Care related topic (or equivalent).
• Training in safeguarding, boundaries, substance awareness, harm reduction, safer injecting, psychosocial interventions.

Responsibilities

• Provide face to face therapeutic intervention, care coordination and support to young people to address substance use.
• Conduct triage, risk and comprehensive assessments to identify goals and plan a support package.
• Deliver and support activities for young people accessing the service.
• Signpost to other agencies and empower young people through informed decisions.
• Maintain written records and ensure engagement with the service.
• Monitor progress using ORS/SRS and review outcomes regularly.
• Liaise with referring agencies and access services through referrals and advocacy.

N-gage provide a Gwent wide service to young people offering support, information, and advice in relation to their own or others drug and/or alcohol use.

The aim of the service is to provide integrated substance use treatment to young people and their families and to support and enable universal and targeted children and young people services to respond to substance use needs.

The role of the Caseworker is to assess, plan and deliver unstructured/structured interventions and support young people accessing the service to address their substance use.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

• Providing face to face therapeutic intervention, care coordination and support to children and young people seeking help to tackle their substance use, using the range of models and methods that have been agreed for use within the service.
• Conducting triage, risk and comprehensive assessments in order to assess individual needs, identify goals, prepare a support package and to review the programme and outcomes on a regular basis
• Delivering and supporting activities to young people accessing the service.
• Signposting young people to other relevant agencies.
• Empowering children and young people, enabling them to help themselves through informed decision making.
• Ensuring access to and maintenance of appropriate support networks and services for young people.
• Maintaining appropriate written service user records and case notes.
• Actively supporting young people to stay engaged with the service.
• Monitoring and reviewing young people’s progress using ORS/SRS.
• Ensuring consultation and participation with young people in all aspects of service delivery.
• Retaining up to date knowledge of all issues, policies and best practice guidelines regarding substance use and with youth work.
• Fostering strong working links with services, including local statutory agencies and community groups.
• Accepting and assessing referrals from all identified sources.
• Liaising with referring agencies regarding individual assessments and needs and progress.
• Accessing other necessary services and resources identified in conjunction with individual client, through referral, negotiation and advocacy where appropriate.
• Providing accurate information and answer queries on issues about substance/alcohol use.
• Delivering talks, workshops, presentations, provide training where appropriate.
• Participating in the delivery of outreach campaigns.
• Utilise social media and digital platforms to enhance engagement and participation.
• Organising displays, exhibitions and participate in community, agency led events where appropriate.
• Disseminating Barod and other leaflets, posters, factsheets and other literature as appropriate.
• Working within agreed policies, procedures and protocols to safeguard children and vulnerable adults.
• Retaining and maintaining all case management records (paper and electronic) in line with service level agreed guidelines and statutory protocols.

Ideally all these requirements must be met by the candidate on appointment. However, in certain circumstances a candidate may be appointed who does not meet a particular requirement. This is providing that the shortfall can be made good in a reasonable time, and the candidate brings other skills, knowledge or experience which are valuable to the role and the Organisation.

Requirements

Full, current driving licence and use of a vehicle which is insured for business use.
