Job summary

Thornhill Academy seeks a Head of Year to oversee pastoral care, progress, attendance, behaviour and wider development for their year group. You will lead Form Tutors, monitor student progress and collaborate with parents and external agencies to ensure support.

You will foster a positive ethos, encourage high expectations and deliver assemblies while driving inclusion and safeguarding across the year. The role is permanent and central to school improvement.

Qualifications

• Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
• Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve academically and personally.
• Can encourage and motivate students and act as a positive role model.
• Has strong organisational skills and can effectively lead and coordinate a year group.
• Can lead, support and motivate a team of Form Tutors.
• Has experience of working with young people and families.
• Understands the importance of attendance, punctuality, behaviour and safeguarding.
• Can work effectively with parents, colleagues and external agencies to support students.
• Is confident delivering assemblies and speaking to groups of students.
• Has a flexible and collaborative approach and is willing to play a full role in the life of the school.
• Is committed to inclusion, equality and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the pastoral care, progress, attendance, behaviour and wider development of students in your year group.
• Manage and support a team of Form Tutors to ensure high standards of delivery.
• Monitor academic and personal progress and promote attendance and punctuality.
• Collaborate with parents, colleagues and external agencies to provide appropriate support.
• Lead year group meetings and assemblies and celebrate achievement.
• Foster a positive ethos within the year group and encourage high expectations.
• Ensure safeguarding and inclusive practice across year activities.
• Contribute to school improvement and development initiatives.
• Represent the year group in relevant staff and student forums.
