Job summary

Step Teachers is recruiting a Year 1 Teaching Assistant for a long-term, full-time position starting September 2026 at a successful Roman Catholic primary school in Stourbridge. You will support Year 1 pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis, assisting with engaging lessons and activities while promoting early literacy and numeracy.

The ideal candidate will have experience with primary-aged children, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a patient, caring, adaptable approach.

Qualifications

• Experience with primary-aged children preferred.
• Experience in a school or educational setting advantageous.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils within the Year 1 classroom on a one-to-one and small-group basis
• Assist the class teacher with delivery of engaging lessons and activities
• Support development of early literacy, numeracy, and communication skills
• Help pupils build confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours
• Support children with differing learning needs and abilities
• Assist with classroom preparation and organisation
• Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
