Job summary

Fusion People Ltd in Milton Keynes is seeking a reliable Yardman / Workshop Assistant to manage the outdoor yard and busy workshop. You will handle steel materials and support fabricators, ensuring safety and tidy spaces.

You will operate basic machinery, assist with loading, packing, and dispatch, and help maintain housekeeping and inventory. The role suits someone with experience in steel environments and a practical, safety‑first approach.

Qualifications

• Experience in steel fabrication yard or heavy manufacturing environment.
• Ability to operate basic workshop machinery safely.
• Previous forklift/yard experience is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Material handling: load, unload and move steel sections, plates and fabrications.
• Inventory control: receive deliveries, verify packing slips and organize stock.
• Workshop support: operate basic machinery to prep materials for fabricators.
• Housekeeping: maintain a clean, hazard-free workshop and yard.

Job Title: Yardman / Workshop Assistant (Counter balance forklift license with side loader)

Location: Milton Keynes

Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and safety-conscious Yardman to join our busy steel fabrication team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the outdoor yard and indoor workshop spaces, handling heavy steel materials, and ensuring a safe, organized environment for our fabricators and welders.

Key Responsibilities

• Material Handling: Load, unload, and move steel sections, plates, and finished fabrications using forklifts, overhead cranes, or manual handling.
• Inventory Control: Receive incoming deliveries, verify packing slips, and organize steel stock neatly by size and grade.
• Workshop Support: Safely operate basic machinery such as band saws, grinders, and drills to prep materials for fabricators.
• Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, hazard-free workshop and yard by clearing scrap metal, managing waste skips, and sweeping work areas.
• Logistics: Assist with prepping, packing, and securing finished structural steel products for dispatch and site delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: Previous experience working in a steel fabrication yard, engineering workshop, or heavy manufacturing environment is highly desirable.

Hourly rate:

£18p/h CIS/PAYE Umbrella (equivalent to £13.55p/h PAYE direct)

(Based on a 8 hour day)
