Job summary

Jark PLC in Wakefield is seeking an experienced Steel Loader / Yard Operative to assist with loading, unloading and storage of steel materials in a busy outdoor yard.

The role requires careful attention to safety, with training provided. You will operate overhead crane, forklift or side loader on site and ensure accurate handling of deliveries and orders.

Qualifications

• Experience with steel and heavy machinery is desirable but not essential.
• Full training provided; preferred qualifications include overhead crane, forklift, side loader.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload deliveries safely and efficiently while maintaining safety standards.
• Manage receipt and dispatch of materials and verify delivery notes.
• Organise products in accordance with operations; read order notes.
• Operate plant equipment in outdoor environment; manual handling.
• Load, unload, and stack steel onto machines such as shotblasters.
• Adhere to site Health and Safety regulations.

Job description

My client in the Ls11 area require an experienced Steel Loader / Yard Operative.

Duties of the Role

• Ensuring the safe and efficient loading and unloading of deliveries, whilst maintaining a high standard of safety at all times.
• Managing the receipt and dispatch of materials, including verification of delivery documents and organising products in accordance with operational requirements.
• Attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety are essential, as the role involves regular manual handing and the operation of plant machinery in a busy outdoor environment.
• Loading and unloading lorries using Overhead Crane, Forklift, or Side Loader.
• Picking steel sections and plates for machines.
• Read and understand delivery and order notes.
• Loading, unloading, and stacking or steel onto Shotblast Machines.
• Adhere to onsite Health and Safety Regulations.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• Experience with steel and a background of heavy machinery and plant are desirable but not essential.
• Full training will be given, but preferred qualifications would consist of Overhead Crane, Forklift Truck, Side Loader, and loading experience.
• Basic understanding of steel processing, beams, plates, flats and angles.
