Job Purpose

A yard operative needs to be willing to operate mobile plant and learn to use bagging machines on site. They must be able to work in all weather conditions and collaborate within a highly motivated team, with good communication being fundamental. Manual work is required daily.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

This is a key role within GRS, primarily responsible for:

1. Ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient production of bagged aggregates.
2. Maintaining high standards of health and safety at all times, reporting issues, accidents, and near misses to the line manager.
3. Working as part of a high-performing team to produce bagged aggregates with a focus on quality and productivity.
4. Operating a forklift truck, depending on site requirements.
5. Completing inspections of fixed and mobile plant equipment.
6. Baling aggregates into plastic and bulk bags to target levels, with training provided.
7. Netting and sheeting lorries as requested by the line manager.
8. Performing general housekeeping duties as needed.
9. Maintaining good communication with drivers, yard operatives, and delivery personnel.
10. Ensuring compliance with legal duties related to HR and health & safety to promote a safe, equitable, and legally compliant workplace.

Knowledge, Training, and Experience Required

1. Good knowledge of health and safety practices (preferable).
2. Forklift truck license (preferable).
3. Training will be provided; experience in these areas is advantageous.
