Job description

The Role

As a Yard Operative at Lawsons, you will work in the yard and warehouse, serving as the first and last point of contact for customers visiting the branch, thereby playing a key role in delivering an excellent customer experience.

Your responsibilities include providing outstanding customer service in the yard, accurately picking and packing products, demonstrating strong product knowledge, and adhering to Health & Safety best practices.

The role involves building strong relationships with trade and retail customers and ensuring we meet their expectations and needs consistently.

You should be someone willing to work hard and be a team player. The yard is a busy area, so you need to work efficiently under pressure to serve customers promptly and courteously. If you're proactive and willing to get involved, we want to hear from you.

A forklift truck licence is essential for this role.

Working Hours

The position offers full-time hours from Monday to Friday, with alternate Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00, totaling 44.5 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately picking products, checking quality and quantity before packing and loading
• Replenishing, rotating, and merchandising stock
• Safely packing and loading products onto vehicles, for customers or suppliers
• Completing all paperwork accurately
• Providing excellent service and attention to customers and suppliers in the yard
• Unloading and inspecting deliveries from customers or suppliers
• Storing received deliveries safely in appropriate locations, following safety policies
• Maintaining yard standards according to audit criteria
• Reporting and managing damaged or compromised products
• Assisting with stock management
• Keeping the yard tidy, organized, and free of hazards
• Using all mechanical equipment and machinery safely
• Following dress code and using PPE as required
• Safeguarding company property, stock, equipment, and information
• Performing any other reasonable tasks assigned by the line manager
• Maintaining high standards of customer service and adhering to company policies
• Building rapport with customers, being polite and courteous
• Vigilant to prevent theft and report safety issues immediately
