Job summary

Parker Building Supplies – Southeast operates as part of Independent Builders Merchants Group (IBMG) and is seeking a Yard Operative for their Newhaven branch. The role involves outdoor yard work, handling building materials, and delivering excellent service to trade and retail customers.

You will load/unload materials, pick and prepare orders, assist customers, maintain safety standards, and may operate a forklift if trained. Forklift and driving licences are preferred but not essential.

Qualifications

• Forklift Truck Licence (preferred but not essential).
• Full UK Driving Licence (preferred).
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Previous yard, warehouse or builders merchant experience (desirable).
• Ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment.
• Knowledge of building materials would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Loading and unloading building materials, including timber and roofing products.
• Picking, checking and preparing customer orders accurately.
• Assisting customers collecting goods from the yard.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Operating forklift trucks (where trained and authorised).
• Supporting goods-in and stock management activities.
• Working with colleagues to ensure smooth branch operations.
• Following all health and safety procedures.

We're looking for a hardworking and reliable Yard Operative to join our busy Newhaven branch.

This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing role involving outdoor work, building materials handling, and delivering excellent service to trade and retail customers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Loading and unloading building materials, including timber and roofing products
• Picking, checking and preparing customer orders accurately
• Assisting customers collecting goods from the yard
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment
• Operating forklift trucks (where trained and authorised)

Monday to Friday: 07:00-17:00
