Job description

Are you an experienced Forklift or Yard Operative? Do you consider yourself to be hardworking, safety-conscious, and an asset to a busy team? Are you based in or around Shepton Mallet, Somerset?

We have a fixed-term Forklift/Yard Operative role available at Holcim UK Ltd, Torr Quarry. This role is ideal for someone with strong forklift and yard maintenance skills and is physically fit, safety-focused, and a team player.

Role: Forklift Operative / Yard Operative Location: Holcim UK Ltd, Torr Quarry, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 4SQ Rate: £13.56 per hour Contract length: Initially 6 months (possibility of extension) Shift Patterns: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (Paid Lunch), 42.5 hours per week Overtime: x1.5 (Monday - Saturday), Double pay on Sundays Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:

• Operate a loading shovel and forklift (valid licence required; clamp training provided) to safely transport, stack, and load/unload lorries.
• Carry out pre-use checks and basic maintenance of machinery and equipment.
• Perform manual yard duties including lifting up to 25kg, shovelling concrete, and general site upkeep.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment by sweeping and removing debris.

Essential Requirements:

• Valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence
• Previous experience in a Quarry or similar outdoor/industrial environment
• Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Willingness to perform physically demanding manual tasks
• Knowledge of UK Health & Safety regulations
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Experience using Forklift Clamp
