Job summary

LBS Builders Merchants Ltd in Carmarthen is seeking a proactive Yard Foreperson to oversee the yard, warehouse and transport operations. Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will drive efficiency, safety and outstanding customer service across trade and retail customers.

You will supervise yard staff and drivers, coordinate deliveries, maintain stock presentation, and ensure daily checks on vehicles and forklifts. A focus on staff development and adherence to safety standards is essential.

Qualifications

• Supervisory or team-leading experience in builders’ merchant, warehouse, or logistics.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to motivate a team.
• Customer-first approach with excellent communication.
• Good knowledge of health and safety practices.
• Forklift licence (or willingness to train) is advantageous.
• Basic IT skills for stock and system checks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate yard staff and drivers to maximise productivity.
• Maintain safe, organised storage and stock presentation across the yard and warehouse.
• Schedule and oversee customer deliveries, ensuring vehicles are used effectively.
• Ensure all vehicles and forklifts are checked daily, maintained, and kept safe and presentable.
• Provide excellent customer service to trade and retail customers, offering advice where required.
• Oversee accurate picking, loading, and unloading of stock for deliveries, collections and transfers.
• Contribute to stock management, accuracy, and rotation, including ongoing stock takes.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, company procedures and security requirements.
• Support and develop staff through training, appraisals, and day-to-day coaching.
