Job summary

A well-established historical College in Chelmsford is seeking an enthusiastic Agricultural Engineering Workshop Technician to join their team. You will support students studying agricultural engineering, ensuring a safe, well-equipped workshop environment to develop practical skills.

No teaching qualification is required; practical experience, enthusiasm and a willingness to help students are what matter most.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience in agricultural engineering, farm machinery, mechanics or a similar workshop.
  • Strong knowledge of tools, machinery and workshop practices.
  • Good understanding of health & safety in a workshop environment.
  • Hands-on, practical approach to teaching and demonstrations.
  • Good communication skills with young people and colleagues.
  • Patience, enthusiasm and willingness to help students learn.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a teaching/technical team.
  • Genuine desire to inspire and develop the next generation of agricultural engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and prepare workshops, equipment and machinery for practical sessions.
  • Support students during practical workshop activities.
  • Demonstrate safe and correct use of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain and organise workshop tools and equipment.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Ensure workshops are clean, safe and fully operational.
  • Monitor workshop stock and consumables.
  • Support lecturers with practical demonstrations and activities.
  • Help students build confidence with tools and engineering techniques.
  • Promote health and safety best practices in the workshop.
  • Report faults and equipment issues promptly.
  • Contribute to a professional and engaging learning environment.

About the Role

A well-established historical College in Chelmsford, looking for an enthusiastic Agricultural Engineering Workshop Technician to join their team.

You'll play a vital role in supporting students studying agricultural engineering, ensuring they have a safe, well-equipped and practical workshop environment in which to develop their skills.

This is a hands-on position ideal for someone from an agricultural engineering, farm machinery, mechanics or workshop background who enjoys working with young people and wants to help develop the next generation of skilled engineers.

No teaching qualification is required. What matters most is your practical experience, enthusiasm and willingness to support students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and prepare workshops, equipment and machinery for practical sessions
  • Support students during practical workshop activities
  • Demonstrate the safe and correct use of tools, machinery and workshop equipment
  • Maintain, inspect and organise workshop tools and equipment

About You
We're looking for someone with:
  • Practical experience within agricultural engineering, farm machinery, mechanics or a similar workshop environment
  • Strong knowledge of tools, machinery and workshop practices
  • Good understanding of health & safety
  • A practical, hands-on approach
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with young people
  • Patience, enthusiasm and a willingness to help students learn
  • The ability to work independently while also being part of a teaching and technical team
  • A genuine desire to support and inspire the next generation of agricultural engineers

Teaching experience or a teaching qualification is not required.
