HGV Workshop Supervisor - Location: Reading - Salary: Competitive - Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:30pm, plus alternate Saturdays 7:00am-11:30am
Our client is a leading provider of waste management and environmental services, operating a large commercial vehicle fleet across the UK.
They are seeking an experienced HGV Workshop Supervisor to join their maintenance team, overseeing the day-to-day activities of technicians and apprentices while also remaining hands-on with servicing, repairs and general workshop duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate workshop technicians and apprentices, ensuring effective allocation of work and smooth handovers.
- Support and guide the workshop team to work safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Carry out hands-on technician duties, including servicing, repairs and general workshop support.
- Manage service sheets, job cards, open defects and assist with vehicle-off-road reporting.
- Work closely with the Workshop Manager and operations team to maintain vehicle availability.
- Assist with parts ordering, stock control and maintaining accurate workshop records.
- Ensure compliance with company Health & Safety procedures and relevant legislation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across workshop processes and working practices.
Requirements
- Previous experience in an HGV workshop environment, ideally in a supervisory or senior technician capacity.
- Experienced HGV Technicians with mentoring or supporting junior technicians/apprentices will also be considered.
- LGV Class 2 licence and digital tachograph card - essential.
- City & Guilds HGV Parts 1-3, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
- Strong practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
- Experience diagnosing faults and carrying out effective vehicle repairs.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and workshop best practice.
- Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to support and guide a workshop team.
