Job summary

Workvine in Hinckley, Leicestershire, is seeking a hands-on Workshop Supervisor to lead the day‑to‑day running of the workshop while staying involved in repairs and diagnostics.

You will allocate jobs, plan workloads, coach technicians and ensure safety, quality and timely delivery. This permanent, full‑time role offers a stable, long‑term environment and the chance to shape workshop processes while keeping your hands on engineering.

Qualifications

Hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday

Fancy leading a workshop where your tools stay in your hand, rather than gathering dust in a drawer?

This is a genuinely hands‑on Workshop Supervisor role where you'll have responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of the workshop while still getting stuck into the technical work yourself. It's a great opportunity for an experienced technician or workshop leader who enjoys solving problems, supporting a team and having a real say in how things are done.

The Company

You’ll be joining an established engineering manufacturer with a long‑standing reputation in the UK and an international customer base.

The business designs, manufactures and supports specialist diesel engines and associated equipment used across sectors including construction, agriculture, industrial and marine applications.

The Role

As Workshop Supervisor, you'll take responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of the workshop, reporting into the senior technical and operations team.

Around half of your time will be hands‑on, carrying out repairs, diagnostics and testing, while the other half will involve planning workloads, allocating jobs, supporting technicians and making sure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

You’ll be the person making sure the workshop keeps moving.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and allocate daily workshop jobs, prioritising urgent and customer‑critical work
• Diagnose, repair and test diesel engines and associated equipment
• Get involved in more complex technical jobs and troubleshooting
• Check completed work to ensure quality and encourage first‑time fixes
• Coach and support technicians, helping develop technical skills and productivity
• Prepare quotations for repair work and escape for approval where required
• Maintain high standards of workshop safety, housekeeping and equipment usage
• Coordinate closely with Parts, Stores, Service and Administration teams
• Help ensure jobs are completed on time and customers receive a high-quality service
• Identify opportunities to improve workshop efficiency and processes

What You'll Bring

• Recognised mechanical engineering, mechanical technician or equivalent trade qualification
• Strong hands‑on experience with diesel engines, mechanical repair and diagnostics
• Previous experience supervising, leading or mentoring technicians within a workshop or service environment
• Experience planning workloads and allocating jobs according to priorities
• A practical, hands‑on approach combined with the ability to organise and lead a team
• Good communication skills and the confidence to make decisions on the workshop floor
• Experience with electronic diagnostics, CAN systems or engine management systems
• Experience using SAP or a similar job management/quotation system
• Background working with diesel, industrial or agricultural engines
• Previous experience in a breakdown, field service or engineering environment

Why This Role?

This isn't a Workshop Supervisor position where you'll spend your days buried in paperwork.

You’ll still be on the tools, diagnosing problems and getting involved in the technical work, while having the responsibility and authority to organise the workshop and lead the team.

It's a particularly good fit for someone who has progressed from technician into a senior or supervisory position but doesn't want to lose the hands‑on side of engineering.

You’ll have the opportunity to make decisions, develop people and improve the way the workshop operates — while still getting your hands dirty.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8:00am–4:30pm and Friday 8:00am–3:15pm, with some flexibility where urgent work needs completing.
