Job summary

JT Search invites applications for a hands-on workshop supervisor in Weston-super-Mare to lead the fabrication team and deliver production targets in a fast-paced engineering environment.

You will manage daily operations, ensure quality and safety standards, and drive continuous improvement across processes, with a strong emphasis on ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 compliance and collaborative cross-department work.

Qualifications

• Must hold City & Guilds or NVQ in fabrication, welding, engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience in fabrication and welding in manufacturing/engineering.
• Willing to undertake Responsible Welding Coordinator training if not already qualified.
• Experience in supervisory or workshop management roles.
• Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and cross-department collaboration.
• Solid understanding of ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 quality systems.
• Proactive health, safety, and continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of the fabrication workshop.
• Lead, motivate, and support the workshop team to achieve production targets.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
• Maintain ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 quality standards.
• Review RAMS and Safe Systems of Work with workshop personnel.
• Assist with cost estimating, technical reviews, and design procedures.
• Review fabrication drawings and perform occasional site visits.
• Plan labour resources and create efficient production schedules.
• Carry out quality inspections throughout manufacturing.
• Ensure job cards are completed accurately.
• Oversee goods-in inspections and verify quantity/quality.
• Monitor stock levels of consumables and PPE.
• Ensure workshop tasks finish within timescales.
• Liaise with Compliance Manager to keep regulatory requirements current.
• Maintain a clean, organised, safe working environment.
• Ensure workshop equipment is inspected, maintained, and cleaned per schedules.
