Royal Mail is currently looking to add an experienced Workshop Manager to its Chester site. The role also includes several other sites including Stoke, Wellington, Craven Arms, Aberystwyth, and Pwllheli. As the Workshop Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering cultural change. You will be accountable for the performance of your Workshop(s) in your area, with specific accountability for delivering performance against all key Maintenance scorecard indicators, including Safety, Legal, Cost, People, and Stakeholder performance measures.

About the Role

You will be critical to ensuring the delivery of Fleet performance and meeting the requirements of the Operator efficiently and cost-effectively.

You will also:

  • Be accountable for compliance with legal and RM safety policies, meeting safety targets, and delivering maintenance services while optimizing cost performance & forecasting through resource planning and booking tools.
  • Be responsible for optimizing the efficiency of Fleet Workshops to meet industry standard performance levels and deploying all changes related to Fleet Workshops.
  • Ensure effective engagement, communication, and coaching to support and develop the Fleet Workshop team.
  • Be accountable for achieving all targets, including internal Customer targets with SLAs, through effective performance management techniques.
  • Support the maintenance of ISO 9001 quality standards within Fleet Workshops and continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage local IR interfaces, working collaboratively with union colleagues to deliver change.
  • Be responsible for any mobile sites and sub-locations under the control of the Workshop and/or Cluster.

About You

You need to be fully qualified to at least advanced level (IMI Level 3) in Light or Heavy vehicle maintenance & repair or an equivalent qualification.

You are an established team leader with relevant industry knowledge and experience in dispersed maintenance operations.

You should also be able to:

  • Manage and build relations with stakeholders effectively.
  • Influence and deliver results through people.
  • Manage and build relations with Trade Union partners.
  • Lead, develop, and coach to drive performance improvement.
  • Be flexible to cover multiple shift operations and be willing to travel to other sites within your area of responsibility.

Because this role requires travel, Royal Mail will contribute £375 monthly towards rental payments for your chosen Job Needs Car.

Next Steps

The selection process includes a face-to-face interview with competency-based and role-specific questions, a presentation, and a scenario exercise. Interviews are planned for w/c 23rd June at Chester F&MS.
