Job summary

Stagecoach Barnstaple is seeking a hands-on Workshop Manager to lead a technical team at our Pottington depot. You’ll ensure our fleet of 60+ vehicles is clean, safe and road-ready, and drive continuous improvement in maintenance and workshop operations.

Based in North Devon, the role offers an annual salary of £55,000, a Monday–Friday 39‑hour week, and opportunities to develop skills as we introduce electric vehicles and depot upgrades.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical or automotive engineering.
• Experience managing or supervising a workshop or technical team, with understanding of PCV operations.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices and regulatory standards.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to plan, analyse and make decisions in a dynamic environment.

We’re looking for a hands‑on, people‑focused Workshop Manager for our Barnstaple depot, supporting a fleet of over 60 vehicles across North Devon.

As Workshop Manager, you’ll play a central role in ensuring our fleet is clean, safe, and road‑ready, while supporting the ongoing development of the workshop as our fleet evolves, including the introduction of electric vehicles and associated depot infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading and motivating your team to deliver safe, reliable and well‑presented vehicles
• Scheduling and prioritising vehicle maintenance and servicing activities
• Supporting team development, identifying training needs and fostering continuous improvement
• Quality checking vehicles after maintenance to ensure high standards are met
• Upholding health, safety and environmental standards in line with legislation and Stagecoach policy

What we’re looking for

• Relevant engineering experience, including mechanical, electrical and bodywork knowledge
• Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant engineering field (mechanical or automotive)
• Experience managing or supervising a workshop or technical team, and a strong understanding of PCV operations
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices and regulatory standards
• A people‑centred approach to leadership, with strong communication and influencing skills
• Ability to plan, analyse, and make confident decisions in a dynamic environment
