Job summary

Harro Group Ltd. in the UK is seeking a skilled Workshop Engineer to join our operations team. You will build complete pumping stations in the workshop, assemble GRP tanks, fit ductile iron and uPVC pipework, install control panels, and programme PLCs to meet technical specs.

You will read mechanical and electrical drawings, test booster sets, manage parts deliveries, and ensure safe, tidy workshop practices in line with industry standards such as BS 7671 where applicable.

Days/Times: 5 days – 07:30 to 16:30 (07:00 start Monday)

Position Statement

The Workshop Engineer is a key member of the operations team responsible for building complete pumping stations in the workshop. This includes constructing GRP tanks and fitting ductile iron and uPVC plastic pipework and valves, installation of control panels, PLC programming, setting up booster sets, and managing deliveries and collections of parts.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• All work completed accurately, safely, and to agreed standards.
• Job records maintained and submitted in full and on time.
• Workshop and stores kept tidy and organised for safe and efficient working.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Production & Technical

• Build complete pumping stations in the workshop, from tank preparation through to a fully tested, ready-to-install unit.
• Fit ductile iron and uPVC plastic pipework and valves inside GRP tanks based on technical drawings.
• Install and wire control panels into kiosks.
• Program PLCs in line with functional requirements.
• Build, test, and set up booster sets and pump assemblies.
• Read and work from mechanical and electrical drawings and layouts.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and presentation across all builds.

Logistics & Warehouse

• Receive and check deliveries, storing materials appropriately.
• Prepare parts and equipment for ongoing and future projects.
• Assist with the collection and delivery of goods using company vehicles if required.

Workshop Safety & Organisation

• Follow all company health and safety policies and safe systems of work.
• Carry out pipework, pressure testing, and electrical panel work in line with company procedures and current regulatory requirements (e.g. BS 7671 for electrical work, and applicable pressure systems and water industry standards), with sign-off from a competent person where required.
• Use PPE correctly and ensure tools and equipment are safe to use.
• Report any hazards, near misses, or incidents promptly.
• Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from avoidable risks.

Administration & Reporting

• Accurately complete job sheets and material records.
• Communicate any issues, delays, or changes to the Operations Manager.
• Ensure all documentation is submitted promptly and correctly.
