Pioneer Plant Ltd. in Corby is seeking an experienced Workshop Based Engineer to perform PDIs, machine preparation, servicing and repairs on Develon construction machinery from 1‑tonne to 80‑tonne heavy equipment.

The role is workshop‑based with additional responsibility for arrival inspections and supporting the Service Manager. You will diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults, maintain records and ensure work meets manufacturer specs.

Formación

• Experience as a Service Engineer in construction or heavy equipment.
• 1–80 tonnes machinery handling experience.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent qualification.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.

Responsabilidades

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs in workshop.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Work on excavators, loaders, dumpers and heavy plant 1–80 tonnes.
• Prepare accurate job reports and inspection documentation.
• Ensure work meets manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organised workshop; coordinate with Parts and Service.
• Perform PDIs and pre-delivery inspections on new and used equipment.
• Follow health and safety regulations.

We are looking for an experienced, hands‑on Workshop Based Engineer to join Pioneer Plant, a leading construction equipment dealership in Corby. You would be carrying out Pre Delivery Inspections, machine preparation and will inspect, service, maintain and repair Develon construction machinery, from 1‑tonne mini excavators to 80‑tonne heavy equipment.

This is a workshop‑based role with added responsibility for machine arrival inspections and our Yard Operative. You will also work closely with the Service Manager to provide practical technical support and help maintain high standards across the operation.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on construction equipment in the workshop.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults efficiently and accurately.
• Work on a wide range of machinery, including excavators, loaders, dumpers and other heavy plant from 1 to 80 tonnes.
• Complete accurate job reports, service records and inspection documentation.
• Ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
• Liaise with the Parts and Service teams to support timely job completion.
• Conduct ACRs and pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) on new and used equipment.
• Follow all health and safety regulations and company policies.
• Experience with leading equipment brands such as Develon, CAT, JCB, Komatsu or Volvo.
• Welding or fabrication skills.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as a Service Engineer or in a similar role within the construction or heavy equipment industry.
• Hands‑on experience working with machinery ranging from 1 to 80 tonnes.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems and electrical systems.
• The ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• A relevant qualification in plant maintenance, mechanical engineering or a similar discipline, such as an NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic IT skills for reporting and diagnostics.
