Job summary

Network Rail is seeking a Workforce HS&E Advisor on the West Coast North Route, based in Preston, to support Supply Chain Operations in embedding a proactive health, safety and environmental culture. You will work with managers and frontline teams, analyse safety data, identify risks and drive improvements, while travelling across the West Coast Route to support sites.

The role requires relevant IEMA/NEBOSH qualifications, strong coaching skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, compliant

Qualifications

• IEMA/NEBOSH certificates or equivalent required.
• Proven knowledge of safety and compliance processes.
• Experience in rail/industrial environments preferred.
• Strong coaching and training abilities.
• Proficient data analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical HS&E advice and coaching to managers and teams across Supply Chain Operations.
• Monitor safety, health and environmental performance data to identify trends and improvements.
• Identify and manage key workforce safety and environmental risks.
• Assist with delivery of national and local safety improvement programmes.
• Support accident investigations and reporting processes.
• Coordinate relationships with Trade Union Safety Representatives and external bodies.
• Coordinate safety tours and HS&E engagement initiatives.
• Support audits and ensure compliance with safe systems of work.
• Promote a strong safety culture across the route.

West Coast North Route | Preston Reporting to: Lisa Lewis, Head of Safety, Health & Environment

We're looking for a Workforce HS&E Advisor to join the West Coast North Route, based in Preston. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting our Supply Chain Operations teams, helping to embed a positive safety culture while ensuring health, safety and environmental considerations remain at the forefront of everything we do.

Working closely with managers, frontline teams and key stakeholders across the route, you'll provide expert advice, guidance and support to drive continuous improvement and help create a safe and sustainable working environment for everyone.

Please note: This role requires extensive travel across the West Coast Route, supporting teams and stakeholders at various locations.

What you'll be doing

As a trusted advisor and coach, you'll support managers and teams in developing a proactive approach to workforce health, safety and environmental management. You'll use data, insights and engagement to identify risks, influence behaviours and drive improvements across the business.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing practical HS&E advice, coaching and guidance to managers and teams across Supply Chain Operations.
• Monitoring and analysing safety, health and environmental performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
• Supporting the identification and management of key workforce safety and environmental risks.
• Assisting with the delivery of national and local safety improvement programmes and initiatives.
• Supporting accident and incident investigations, providing guidance on reporting and formal investigation processes.
• Facilitating relationships with Trade Union Safety Representatives and external safety and environmental bodies.
• Coordinating safety tours, staff surveillance activities and HS&E engagement initiatives.
• Supporting audit activities and monitoring compliance with safe systems of work.
• Promoting a strong safety culture and encouraging positive behavioural change across the route.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management or IOSH Managing Sustainably or NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate
• NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
• Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes
• Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures

• Knowledge of operational railway environment
