Job summary

Manchester City Council's STEPs team provides study programmes for young adults aged 16-25 with learning difficulties and disabilities. The post holder will lead a small team of Job Coaches to deliver introductory job skills and secure placements that offer real workplace experiences.

You will organise industry visits, work with employers, and help young people grow confidence and move toward work or volunteering opportunities. DBS checks and references are part of the pre-employment process.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills to relate to a range of people, including employers and young people with learning disabilities, to negotiate work placements and to ensure positive impact.
  • Excellent planning and organising skills, can handle multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • Ability to make day-to-day decisions and take ownership.
  • Willingness to apply for an enhanced DBS check, a requirement for this role.

Working Hours: 35 Hours Per Week

Additional Payments: Casual Car Allowance

Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.

This role offers the chance to make a difference to the lives of young people with learning disabilities by giving them support to make the transition into adulthood, to be inspired by the possibilities for work, both paid and voluntary and to gain confidence in their own skills and abilities.

Manchester City Council's STEPs team delivers study programmes for young adults aged 16-25 with learning difficulties and disabilities.

The programme aims to help young people with learning disabilities grow in all areas of their lives—not just in the classroom. We support them to build confidence, learn everyday skills, make friends, and prepare for work or independent living, based on what matters most to them.

The post holder will lead a small team of Job Coaches to provide an introduction to job skills to the young people. They will secure high-quality work experience placements providing real workplace experiences, working alongside employees and managers. They will organise industry visits to offer encounters with employers and employees.

We would love to hear from you if you have experience of:

  • Using your excellent communication skills to relate to a range of different people, including employers and young people with learning disabilities, to negotiate work placements and to ensure young people get the most positive impact from them
  • Excellent planning and organising skills, with the ability to organise multiple tasks in the most effective way and prioritise tasks.
  • The ability to make effective decisions on a day-to-day basis, taking ownership of decisions.
  • The ability to organise your own and others' activities to plan and deliver an excellent programme for our young people to support them into work and volunteering.
  • Willingness to apply for an enhanced DBS check which is a requirement for this role.
