Job summary

Markel is seeking a Contract Wordings Technician to support underwriters and the Wordings Team within the USP framework. You will review and craft wordings for Markel products, binding authorities, and broker wordings, while staying ahead of regulatory and market developments.

This role offers close collaboration with senior stakeholders and opportunities to develop technical expertise. Based in the Greater London area, this position requires strong communication, project management and drafting

Responsibilities

• Provide reviews and advice on wordings and products including Markel products, Binding Authorities, Cover-holder and broker wordings
• Stay ahead of regulatory, legal and market developments and advise underwriters on potential impacts
• Develop and deliver advice to underwriters on wording-related issues and trends
• Maintain central wording repository and keep related records/reports
• Collaborate with other business areas to share technical expertise and ensure consistency
• Coordinate with team members to provide transparent workloads and timely service
• Ensure wordings align with legal and regulatory requirements
• Participate in ad hoc information requests/projects related to wordings
• Explain technical topics in an approachable and accessible way for internal/external audiences
• Lead post-bind thematic reviews of product lines
• Mentor and develop junior team members
• Support product/process changes due to regulatory developments
• Acquire knowledge of emerging risks to support innovation and underwriting appetite
• Contribute to development of technical knowledge within product lines with underwriter training
• Assist auditors from internal and external sources
• Collaborate with Compliance, Product Governance, Legal & Regulatory, IT, Operations
• Participate in strategic project work and delivery of required actions
• Attend internal and external meetings as required
• Lead crafting of custom wordings and clauses for large/complex risks
• Engage in trainings to advance technical expertise
