Would you like to be involved with supporting the production, delivery, and maintenance of City & Guilds' new Level 3 Technical Occupation Entry in Wood Occupations (Site Carpentry) Diploma?

Role Overview

We are seeking a Chief Examiner to oversee the production and maintenance of assessments, with the first assessment scheduled from September 2026. This is a senior position within our Wood Occupations associate examining team.

The Chief Examiner plays a vital role in delivering technical qualifications, involved in assessment production, standard setting, and maintenance. Responsibilities include leading quality assurance for assessment series, collaborating with subject matter experts to develop and edit content, and guiding a team through the assessment cycle.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee assessment production and maintenance for the new OTQ in Wood Occupations, designed for learners aged 16-19 and 19+ aiming to start a career in Carpentry.
  2. Manage the creation of assessments, including two online MCQ theory exams and one practical assignment, ensuring they are valid and consistent.
  3. Review and quality assure assessment content during production, participating in evaluation committees throughout the year.
  4. Set and maintain standards across the qualification, leading standard-setting activities and grade boundary confirmation.
  5. Monitor assessment performance and industry relevance, providing feedback and updates as needed.
  6. Support City & Guilds in responding to assessment queries and feedback.
Additional Details

All activities are primarily remote, with potential travel to London for meetings. The role involves collaboration with external assessors and participation in full-day remote committee meetings. A comprehensive training and induction plan will be provided.
