Job summary

Prodrive is seeking a Wiring Harness Technician based in the UK. The role requires at least three years in a technical environment, ideally motorsport or automotive, with an apprenticeship or BTEC in Electrical Engineering and IPC-A-620/IPC-A-610 willingness.

You will work with System 25 materials, HV cables and automated crimping, building complex harnesses to customer designs. You will read drawings, prepare BOMs for prototypes and collaborate across departments to meet targets while

Qualifications

• Three years’ experience in a technical environment, preferably motorsport or automotive.
• Apprenticeship or BTEC National Electrical Engineering qualification (or equivalent).
• Willing to work towards IPC-A-620 and IPC-A-610 qualifications.
• Skilled with System 25 materials, contra‑helical lay‑ups, automated crimping tools and HV cables.
• Experience building complex wiring harnesses from customer designs and reading drawings.
• Ability to create bills of materials for prototype builds and maintain quality focus.
• Strong communication, flexible to meet deadlines and a commitment to HCI safety practices.
• Hands‑on, proactive, resilient attitude with a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Build harnesses from detailed drawings in a production environment to high quality and on time.
• Prototype on car and specify components for volume production builds.
• Define crimp tooling per contact using Crimp Pull Tester to verify MIL standards.
• Assemble HV cables from simple to complex harnesses for demanding projects.
• Coordinate deliverables with colleagues across departments.
• Manage own and team time to achieve harness delivery targets.
• Coordinate with quality and logistics to meet requirements and expectations.
• Liaise with internal departments and customers to integrate harnesses into vehicles.
• Support inspection during holidays or sickness as required.
• Create new designs to internal/customer requirements when needed.
• Recommend best practices and ensure adherence to HCI Codes of Practice.

Background to the Role

Due to the continued success of the business both in established and new marketplaces, HCI Systems are looking to recruit a Wiring Harness Technician to join the team and further assist the company in its growth plans. The wiring harness technician role will be expected to build wiring harnesses on a day-to-day basis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To build, from a detailed drawing, sealed system wiring harnesses in a production environment to a high quality and in a timely manner.
• Prototyping on car and building first harness with minimal information to specify components for volume production builds
• Defining of Crimp tooling per contact using Crimp Pull Tester to confirm against mil standards
• Assembly of simple single crimp large diameter HV cables through to the high-pressure delivery of complex and challenging Formula One harnesses
• Coordination of deliverables with colleagues
• Manage own and if applicable team time to achieve harness delivery targets
• Coordination with other departments, including quality and logistics, to ensure alignment on requirements and expectations
• Liaising with Internal departments and with customer to integrate Wiring harness into vehicles, defining harness routings using best practice
• Support Inspection as and when required (Holiday cover / Sickness etc)
• Create new designs to internal / customer requirements if required
• Make recommendations during builds to ensure best practice and HCI Codes of Practice are followed at all times

Who are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional with at least three years in a technical environment, ideally within motorsport or automotive. You’ve completed an apprenticeship or hold a BTEC National Electrical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) and are qualified, or willing to work towards, IPC-A-620 and IPC-A-610. You’re skilled in using System 25 materials, contra‑helical lay‑ups, automated crimping press tools, and high‑voltage cable preparation. You have experience building complex wiring harnesses to customer designs, can read drawings, and create bills of materials for prototype builds. With a strong customer and quality focus, you communicate well with both internal and external teams, work flexibly to meet deadlines, and follow Health, Safety and Environmental policies. Proactive and resilient, you overcome obstacles, work collaboratively, and bring a hands‑on, can‑do attitude to deliver excellent results.
