Job summary

Amey in Ayr, Scotland, is seeking HGV Winter Patrol Drivers for a 6-month fixed-term contract (October–March) at Ayr Depot. You will drive gritting vehicles, perform winter maintenance, carry out checks and document defects and activities.

Essentials include a valid HGV Class 2 licence and Full Driver CPC, plus strong communication and teamwork. Desirable: prior winter maintenance and telehandler qualification. Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate gritting vehicles and other specialist plant and equipment.
• Carry out winter maintenance activities, including gritting, inspections and minor highway maintenance works.
• Complete daily vehicle checks and reports any defects accurately.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with health and safety procedures.
• Record time, resources and operational activities using company systems.
• Attend team briefings and contribute to safe, efficient operations.
• Work closely with colleagues, clients, emergency services and members of the public.
• Maintain accurate records and complete all required paperwork.
