Job Title: Wintel Engineer
Salary: £52,000 - £58,000 plus Excellent Benefits
Location: London, North Greenwich/Hybrid Working

Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

The Networks and Hosting team, within TfL, is responsible for Microsoft (including Windows, Azure and SQL), AWS, Oracle, and LINUX technologies managing and maintaining TfL’s core infrastructure at a virtual and physical layer.

The core servers we use include Hyper Converged Infrastructure and full Windows Environments, hosting over 400 of TfL’s Mission Critical and Business Critical services including The Elizabeth Line, London Underground, Overground, Buses, and Oyster/Contactless which ultimately keep TfL services running.

The Team

The team is made up of approximately 20 Infrastructure platform specialists, covering 3 key functional workstreams: BaU, Build & Delivery, and Lifecycle.

The Role

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will carry out day-to-day technical activities, guided by a Senior Engineer. There may also be a requirement to support out-of-hours work and on-call for TfL’s 24/7 supported services, but this comes with a pay supplement.

BaU Workstream – primary focus is to prevent outages through checks and monitoring, and if a failure does occur, identifying the root cause and restoring the service.

Build & Delivery Workstream – delivering specific project outcomes including service transition and new services, related to the infrastructure environment including proof of concepts activities. Collaboration with our team of Technical Delivery Managers, and often Infrastructure Architects, is key to help deliver these outcomes.

Lifecycle Workstream – ensuring that tools and platforms remain upgraded and compliant to keep them safe from cyber-attacks, stable, and fully supported. Working closely with our team of Technical Delivery Managers to deliver improvements to existing infrastructure.

Key technical skills and knowledge required at a competent level:

1. Microsoft Windows Server up to and including Win2022
2. Hyper Converged Infrastructure (DELL VxRail)
3. VMware vSphere up to and including 8.0
4. Windows Clustering
5. HP C7000 blade enclosures
6. Microsoft Active Directory, DNS and DHCP
7. PowerShell (to enable automation through scripting)
8. Azure and AWS Cloud
9. Knowledge of SAN, NAS and Host connectivity to Windows
10. Forcepoint Web Security Solutions
11. Trend Antivirus Security Solutions
12. F5 load balancing technology
13. Secure File Transfer technology
14. Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery techniques and implementing DevOps best practices
15. ITIL Foundation v3 certification (minimum)
