Job summary

MSMagazin is seeking a Wind Tunnel Model Systems Engineer for its Silverstone facility. This position involves designing and developing wind tunnel model systems, supporting integration at our state-of-the-art facility. Successful candidates will have proven wind tunnel experience, particularly in the motorsport sector, alongside technical expertise in multiple disciplines.

You will manage several critical sub-projects, document processes, and ensure the highest quality standards. A flexible working attitude and occasional travel will be part of the job, contributing to our mission of excellence in racing.

Qualifications

  • Proven wind tunnel experience, preferably in motorsport.
  • Extensive experience with wind tunnel model systems and instrumentation.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Skills with industry communication protocols such as CAN bus, TCP, UDP.
  • Experience in setting up test installations and safety-critical equipment.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Wind Tunnel Model Systems Engineer to join The Cadillac Formula 1 ® Team at our Silverstone facility. In this role, you will support the development and integration of wind tunnel model systems and technologies. Principal Accountabilities
  • Design and development of wind tunnel model onboard systems and off-model systems related to data acquisition, including specification of components, testing, and coordination with model design.
  • Design, assembly and development of bench test rigs for system checking and setup both on and off model.
  • Design and development of control and acquisition software for the wind tunnel model and related rigs.
  • Support the setup and calibration of model systems, instrumentation and rig installations.
  • Project management of sub‑projects.
  • Support technical fault logging and resolution of issues on the electrical and electronic systems of the wind tunnel model and test rigs in a methodical and timely manner.
  • Investigate and research new technologies, techniques and methodologies for wind tunnel model systems, including instrumentation, actuation, control, sensors and aerodynamic measurements, as required to improve testing performance.
  • Ensure the wind tunnel delivers class‑leading quality and throughput to support race car aerodynamic development.
  • Record data and document experimental methods, configurations and procedures with accountability for detailed and up‑to‑date documentation for all developed and installed systems.
  • Work closely with aero development and performance engineers to define and deliver upon requirements.
  • Assist with the training of junior group members.
Requirements
  • Proven wind tunnel experience, preferably within the motorsport industry, and extensive experience of wind tunnel model systems, sensors and pressure measurement instrumentation.
  • Wide‑ranging skillset with good knowledge across electrical, mechanical and software/control disciplines.
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with common industry communication protocols, e.g., CAN bus, TCP, UDP, EtherCAT, etc.
  • Experience setting up and operating test installations, machinery and safety‑critical equipment.
  • Programming skills or experience with National Instruments LabVIEW or C‑Rio FPGA is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of data acquisition systems typically used in motorsport, e.g., Pi Toolbox, Pi Diablo, ATLAS, System Monitor, and strong data analysis skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self‑motivating, responsible and meticulous.
  • Positive contribution to an open and inclusive culture.
  • Proficiency in English language skills.

The ideal applicant will possess excellent practical and technical skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines both individually and within a team environment. This role demands a flexible approach to working hours and will include occasional overseas travel.
