Job summary

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is looking for a Wilder Landscapes Assistant to help deliver nature recovery across North-East Derbyshire. You will assist with project delivery, monitoring and administration, and support community engagement and volunteering activities.

You will work alongside the Wilder Landscapes Officer to create connected, resilient landscapes for wildlife and people, balancing fieldwork with office duties and a flexible hybrid working pattern.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting projects in conservation, environmental or community settings.
• Ability to coordinate volunteers and community activities.
• Practical conservation experience and habitat management exposure.
• Interest in rewilding, nature recovery and nature-based solutions.
• Ability to build relationships with landowners and partners.
• Strong organisational and planning skills.

Job description

We're looking for a Wilder Landscapes Assistant to support landscape-scale nature recovery across North-East Derbyshire through rewilding and nature-based solutions.

In this role, you'll support the delivery of nature recovery projects, working alongside landowners, communities and partner organisations to help create more connected, resilient landscapes for wildlife. You'll assist with project delivery, monitoring and administration, help organise community engagement and volunteering activities, and support people to take action for nature. Working closely with the Wilder Landscapes Officer, you'll play an important role in helping deliver positive outcomes for both people and wildlife.

We're looking for someone with experience supporting projects, volunteering activities or practical conservation work who is enthusiastic about helping create more space for nature and enabling people to take action for wildlife.

• You have experience supporting projects, ideally within a conservation, environmental or community-focused setting.
• You have practical experience of land management, conservation activities or habitat management.
• You have an interest in rewilding, nature recovery and nature-based solutions.
• You are a confident communicator who can build positive relationships with landowners, communities, volunteers and colleagues.
• You have experience supporting volunteers, community groups or public engagement activities.
• You have a good understanding of ecology, conservation or environmental issues.
• You are able to collect, record and manage information accurately and maintain organised records.
• You have good organisational skills and can manage competing priorities effectively.
• You are proactive, enthusiastic and keen to learn and develop new skills.
• You are passionate about nature recovery and inspired by the opportunity to help create positive outcomes for people and wildlife.

This role will be based at our office in Middleton although a balance of home and office working will be allowed. We are a local charity so applicants should be easily able to access our office and other locations around the county.
