New Directions are hiring Covering Supervisors! Are you a fluent Welsh speaker? Do you have experience managing or supervising a group of people? Would you like to transfer those skills into an education setting? If so, we would love to hear from you, as we have opportunities to work as Cover Supervisors in Welsh Medium Secondary schools in Ruthin.

You will need to have the confidence to stand in front of a secondary classroom to maintain classroom behaviour, and ensure the pupils stay on task following the work set by the class teacher. If you have experience as a Sports Coach or have worked in a supervisory role this could be a great way to transfer your skills in a new job. There is no teaching involved with this position, the main responsibility of this role is the management of the classroom. Therefore, experience working with children or supervising groups of people along with good communication skills is essential.

There are various day-to-day, part time and full time roles available, with an immediate start.

As a cover supervisor you will be expected to:

• Undertake whole class supervision in the absence of the class teacher, setting work previously prepared by the teacher
• Develop curricular knowledge as required by the school
• Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class teacher/head teacher
• Set homework previously prepared by the teacher
• Mark elements of class work and homework under the guidance of the class teacher
• Undertake observations of the pupils and contribute to pupil records
• Administer (and mark) class tests
• Supervise the work of the teaching assistant
• Abide by and work towards all the policies within the school e.g. behaviour management, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities
• Carry out the above duties in accordance with the Children’s Services Department’s Equal Opportunities Policy
